A real-time lossless data compression system for ophthalmometer based on FPGA is proposed, which adopts LZW algorithm. Firstly, by comparing and analyzing the characteristics of commonly used data lossless compression algorithms, it is concluded that LZW algorithm has good characteristics in real-time, implementation complexity, required storage capacity, algorithm compression effect and applicable occasions, so it is used as the algorithm for hardware implementation. This data real-time lossless data compression system consists of data real-time lossless data compression hardware circuit, test software, decompression software and reading software. The data real-time lossless data compression hardware circuit consists of data acquisition, data compression, control unit, data storage, power management and other parts. The core device is FPGA. The RAM resources inside the FPGA chip are used to form the buffer of input data and the two dictionary memories required by the LZW algorithm. The real-time lossless compression is completed by combining the dictionary management strategy that is conducive to hardware implementation. At the same time, FPGA is also responsible for the control of analog-to-digital converters and flash memory. The results show that the scheme occupies less logical resources, has strong portability, and is easy to expand functions. The data storage and transmission efficiency is improved by 20%, and the cost is reduced by 13%. Abstract: The real-time data nondestructive compression system of optometry instrument based on FPGA was presented, it adopted LZW algorithm. First, through comparison and analyzing the characteristic of common data, it obtained that the LZW algorithm had good characteristics in real time and realization suitable occasion and the compressed effect of complex degree, the memory capacity of requirement, therefore, it was used as the algorithm. The results show that the system takes little logic resource, has strong transplantability, easy function development, data stock and transmit efficiency have raised 20%, cost has reduced 13%.
