The chromatographic analysis of dissolved gases in transformer oil can detect latent faults in oil-filled electrical equipment at an early stage. This article explains the method of using chromatographic analysis to judge transformer internal faults from five aspects: comparing the analysis data of characteristic gas content dissolved in oil and the attention value, the gas production rate of the fault point, the three-ratio method, the fault degree and development trend, and the commonly used domestic measuring instruments and their characteristics; and then lists the engineering examples of using chromatographic analysis to judge transformer faults from two aspects: various experimental analyses before and after the transformer is struck by lightning and its internal discharge, and points out the shortcomings of chromatographic analysis in judging faults.
