In order to improve the accuracy of liquid level measurement in ship tanks, the characteristics of liquid level measurement signals were studied, and a new method for water level signal processing based on wavelet denoising and empirical mode decomposition (EMD) was proposed. The liquid level signal is preprocessed using a shift-invariant wavelet denoising algorithm to eliminate the impact of abnormal events on the EMD method. The signal is decomposed using EMD, and the high-frequency inherent mode (IMF) components are removed according to a given confidence level. The low-frequency IMF and trend terms are extracted for reconstruction, and the interference-free components obtained are the true liquid level signals. Theoretical and experimental studies have shown that reliable IMF components can only be obtained when abnormal interference is effectively eliminated. This method is effective and feasible for extracting the true trend of liquid level signals with abnormal interference.
