Load balancing is an important technology to improve network performance. The Multi-Instance Spanning Tree Protocol (MSTP) proposes that different spanning tree topologies be used for communication in different virtual local area networks (VLANs) without changing the basic mode of network switching. The purpose of routing is achieved by controlling the spanning tree topology used by each VLAN, which provides conditions for using redundant links to achieve load balancing. This paper determines a link load function as the basis for measuring network load, and proposes a load balancing routing algorithm based on MSTP. This algorithm can select the spanning tree mapping with the smallest link load, making full use of redundant lines to achieve the purpose of load balancing.
