Considerations in the design of portable multimedia players in terms of hardware and software Portable multimedia players (PMP), also known as MP4, have become a new hot spot in consumer products after MP3. More and more companies are entering this field to develop products and seize market opportunities. The following introduces the design of PMP and the considerations in the design, taking TMS320DM270 as the main processing chip. The design ideas can also be applied to the design of other portable devices. Before designing the system framework, you need to confirm the specific functions of the player. Currently, the more common functions include: MPEG4 playback, TV program recording, MP3/WMA audio playback, recording, picture display, games and storage functions (HDD/CF/SD). Based on these functions, Figure 1 shows a reference system architecture, which mainly consists of five parts: main processing module, video input module, video output module, audio input and output module, power module and storage module. As the main processing module, DM270 is the core of the entire system, and other modules of the system are coordinated and controlled by it. DM270 supports a variety of multimedia formats, including video (MPEG1/2/4, etc.), image (JPEG/BMP, etc.) and audio (MP3/WMA, etc.). The core chip of the video input module is TVP5150A. It is a low-power and small-volume video decoder that can convert NTSC, PAL and SECAM video signals into digital component video signals. The video output module consists of LCD and TV output. Currently, 2.5-inch to 3.6-inch LCD modules are used on the market, and there are also 7-inch large screens.
