The technical principle of optical code division multiple access is introduced. The research work and achievements of the Key Laboratory of Optical Fiber Communication of University of Electronic Science and Technology of China in OCDMA communication technologies such as wavelength division multiplexing/optical code division multiple access hybrid networks, optical orthogonal code construction, inter-code interference and bipolar OCDMA system are reviewed. Finally, the technical advantages and problems faced by OCDMA system are pointed out.
