Propagation and Fading of RF Signal Propagation and Fading of RF Signal Title: RF Signal Propagating and FadingKey Word: RF, Fadingf, Doppler, RICIAN Fading, RAYLEIGH Fading, LOG NORMALFadingAbstract: This paper introduces the principle of propagating and fading of RF signal in GSM system. Discussed the characteristics of Rayleigh fading, Rician fading and LOG NORMAL fading. In GSM wireless communication system, the propagation path of RF signal in space is very complex. When RF signal propagates in space, it will be reflected by obstacles, and this propagation and reflection will cause the attenuation of signal amplitude and the change of phase or delay, which has a very important impact on the quality of communication. Therefore, we should have a clear understanding of the propagation of RF signal in space and its fading law. 1. Signal propagation in free space In GSM wireless communication system, transmitter and receiver achieve the purpose of information exchange by propagating radio waves in space. If the propagation characteristics of the radio channel are not specified, we can assume that the signal propagates in an ideal free space. In this case, the free space model can be used. In the free space model, there is no object between the transmitter and the receiver antennas that reflects or absorbs the radio signal energy. The attenuation of the signal amplitude is related to the propagation distance. Moreover, in the free space model, the air is considered to be an ideal uniform medium that does not absorb energy, and the ground is considered to be infinitely far away from the propagating signal, or the reflection coefficient of the ground can be ignored. In this ideal free space model, when the RF signal propagates between the transmitter and the receiver, the loss or attenuation of the signal energy is inversely proportional to the square of the distance. The power received by the receiver is the power emitted by the transmitter multiplied by an attenuation coefficient...
