The long axis of the coherent region is the longest line between the complex coherence coefficients, reflecting the linear variation trend of the complex interference coherence coefficients. Therefore, it has important research significance in the application of polarization interferometry forest based on coherent scattering model. Aiming at the shortcomings of the traversal search method in estimating the long axis, which is inefficient and the accuracy is limited by the sampling interval, this paper proposes a fast estimation method for the long axis of the coherent region. This method takes the tangent point connection line of the circumscribed rectangle of the coherent region as the initial estimate of the long axis, and solves the long axis using approximation technology. In order to improve the performance of forest height estimation, this paper also proposes a method for inverting the forest number using the long axis information. The results of polarization interferometry simulation data of pine forests show that the running time of the fast estimation method is much lower than that of the traversal search method, and the long axis estimation accuracy is higher than that of the traversal search method. The forest height estimated using the long axis information is closer to the simulated forest height.
