Introduction This application note describes various methods of detecting button presses using capacitive touch sensing. We assume that the reader has a basic understanding of touch sensing and recommend that you read AN1101, Introduction to Capacitive Touch Sensing, before reading this application note to understand the hardware. Some capacitive touch sensing solutions currently on the market provide only a \"black box\" solution, where you buy an IC that signals whether a button is pressed, but the configurability is limited. Microchip\'s solution provides the greatest flexibility because the software routine to detect button presses can be completely written by the user. This does not mean that the user must develop their own software program, Microchip provides capacitive touch sensing programs that you can use in your solution right away.
