Embedded systems need to process large amounts of data, and their storage media are diverse. This paper proposes an embedded file system (EFS) that complies with the FAT standard and can be ported to a variety of media. The architecture of EFS is analyzed, and the design method of the underlying driver is given. Experimental results show that EFS supports FAT12/16/32 format files and has high reliability. It adopts a modular design, provides standard API functions, and has high portability. The system has been applied to actual products. Keywords: embedded; file system; portable system
