Abstract : A novel etched optical fiber temperature sensor with metal coating is presented. The working principle of this sensor is analyzed in detail. The results of experiment show that the properties of this sensor depend on the structure parameters of etched fiber sections and the type of metal coating material. The response under temperature change is linear ,repeatable and no measurable hysteresis. The sensor has higher sensitivity.Key words : optical fiber sensor ; etched optical fiber ; temperature expansion ; power loss
