What is a load sensor? How does it work? We know that sensors play a leading role in the intelligent Internet of Things. In this article, we introduce the load sensor. What kind of sensor is it and what role does it play? It is mainly explained from four aspects: overview, classification, structure, and working principle.
Load sensor?
The load sensor is a sensor device that completes the measurement of the force on an object by testing the load on the force-bearing carrier. The load sensor can convert the pressure transmitted from the carrier into a corresponding electrical signal to achieve the purpose of measurement.
Load sensor classification
According to different principles, load sensors are divided into: pin type load sensors, pressure load sensors, bridge load sensors, pulley load sensors, bearing seat load sensors, tension load sensors, etc.

How the load sensor works
Principle of load sensor elastomer The elastomer is a structural part with a special shape. It has two functions. First, it withstands the external force exerted by the load cell, generates reaction force to the external force, and achieves relative static equilibrium; secondly, it generates a high-quality strain field (area) to enable the paste to be placed in this area. The resistance strain gauge is ideal for completing the task of converting strain-to-electrical signals. Taking the elastomer of Toledo's SB series load cell as an example, let's introduce the stress distribution.
A rectangular parallelepiped cantilever beam with blind holes is provided. The center of the bottom of the blind hole is subjected to pure shear stress, but tensile and compressive stresses will occur in the upper and lower parts. One of the principal stress directions is tension and the other is compression. If a strain gauge is attached here, the upper half of the strain gauge will be stretched and the resistance will increase, while the lower half of the strain gauge will be compressed and the resistance will decrease. The above is the principle and related analysis of the load sensor. I hope it can provide you with a reference when choosing.
