This electronics project is a piece of test equipment. This is a square wave generator with 6 selectable frequencies from 1Hz to 100kHz, in decade value increments. This square wave generator electronics project is based on the popular 555 timer IC and generates six preset frequencies from 1Hz to 100kHz. It has a wide operating voltage range and even provides a visual display output.

This is a most useful square wave generator project for radio signal lines and television. Square waves are best used for test signals in the intermediate frequency (IF) zone and will pass through the IF transformer without any attenuation, regardless of the circuit's tuned frequency. The 555timer is configured for astable operation, which means it will trigger itself and run freely as a multivibrator. The values of the timing components resistors R1, R2 and capacitor (C1-6) shown in this diagram, generate six frequencies of 1Hz, 10HZ, 100HZ, 1KHZ, if you want to generate a variable frequency from 10kHz to 100kHz you can use a Mini series of 100K resistors with trimmer potential connections for 10 K and 68K resistors. This square wave oscillator electronics project can provide 5 to 18 volts DC output voltage from a power supply, but it is usually recommended to use a 9 volts DC power supply.
