LTC3872 60V Boost Controller with No RSENSE Architecture (Figure)
Date: 2006-7-10
Character size: [ Large ] [ Medium ] [ Small ]
 Manufacturer: Linear Technology

 Product Description:

The LTC3872 is a 550kHz current-mode step-up DC/DC controller that converts an input voltage of 2.5 to 9.8V into a higher output voltage. It can achieve a VOUT of up to 60V without a sense resistor. Applications include telecom power supplies, 42V automotive systems, 24V industrial control systems, IP phone power supplies, and equipment powered by lithium-ion batteries.

The LTC3872 provides load current by driving an external N-channel MOSFET. In addition, its current mode architecture features cycle-by-cycle current limiting, lower output ripple voltage, low noise, and excellent voltage and load transient response. The pulse skipping mode is used at light loads to maintain high efficiency, while the low operating current of 250uA and the shutdown current of 8uA extend the battery life. The LTC3872 provides excellent AC and DC load and voltage regulation with an output voltage accuracy of ±1.5%. Other system and integrated circuit protection features include internal soft start (external soft start can be added with an external capacitor) and precise undervoltage lockout. The LTC3872 is available in a thermally enhanced flat (0.75mm) 8-lead 2mm×3mmDFN package and a ThinSOTTM package.
