History of Centralized Meter Reading --- Wireless Module [Copy link]

Industry Development Background Centralized meter reading products have been developed in China since the 1990s, and have a history of nearly 20 years. Its development process can be roughly divided into three stages. 1.1992 to August 1998 This period is the stage from the beginning of the centralized meter reading products to the recognition of the market and the power equipment testing authority; for most of this period, because there were few actual cases, it was unanimously believed that the meter reading system was too simple, and the market was so huge and full of temptation! This period started from the appearance of the product on the market to the promotion of the industry standard "Technical Conditions for Centralized Meter Reading Systems for Low-voltage Power Users" (Trial). The products of this period generally had the characteristics of trial and exploration in terms of both market and technology. 2. August 1998 to 2005 At the beginning of this period, the industry standard DLT/698 "Technical Conditions for Centralized Meter Reading System for Low-voltage Electric Power Users" was officially promulgated. At the same time, with the launch of the "One Household One Meter" project for urban and rural residents, centralized meter reading products began to gain the attention and patient understanding of power users. Changes in transmission methods: The transmission methods of this period are no longer the original contention of a hundred schools of thought. Among them, low-voltage power line carrier technology and RS485 dedicated line stand out in this period. The application level of low-voltage power line carrier communication has been greatly improved. Foreign chip technology has been transferred to China, and domestically developed carrier technology chips have emerged in the market. Relying on the huge low-voltage power transmission network, low-voltage power line carrier technology has incomparable potential advantages. However, the low-voltage power line carrier at this time still has defects in data transmission reliability and real-time performance due to the low technical maturity. 3.2005 to present Although the centralized meter reading products had been developed for more than 10 years by 2005, it was in recent years that the centralized meter reading products were fully recognized and valued in the power industry. This was marked by the upgrade of the original industry standard DLT698-1999 "Technical Conditions for Centralized Meter Reading Systems for Low-voltage Power Users" to DLT698-2009 "Electric Energy Information Collection and Management System" (the new industry national standard is awaiting approval from the National Development and Reform Commission). The Southern Power Grid, represented by the Guangdong Power Grid, promulgated the "Technical Conditions and Communication Protocols for Centralized Meter Reading Systems for Low-voltage Power Users of Guangdong Power Grid Company (6 documents)" in September 2007, and the State Grid promulgated the "Electricity Information Collection System" enterprise standard in 2010. From these standards, it can be seen that the power user department positions the centralized meter reading product as a technical equipment for the collection of electric energy information and the establishment of a marketing management system for power companies. Compared with the previous data transmission method, the short-distance wireless communication method has been added at this time: Short-distance wireless communication technology has been used since the development of centralized meter reading products, mainly between concentrators and collectors. However, the concentrator initially used a low-power FSK wireless transmitter and a proprietary frequency band, which required an application to the Radio Management Committee. The advantage of wireless communication is that it does not require wiring and is easy to install. In the early days, traditional wireless communication technology was immature, and wireless communication hardware used analog circuits. Although wireless meter reading was achieved, there were many disadvantages: First, the analog circuit changes with temperature and humidity, the frequency offset is serious, and the reliability is poor; second, the communication rate is low, the distance is short, the power consumption is large, and the life is short; third, the overall cost is high and mass production is difficult. These shortcomings have led to the difficulty in promoting wireless communication technology in the meter reading industry and its development has been slow. However, in recent years, with the development of wireless communication technology, wireless communication hardware adopts high-precision integrated packaging technology, the influence of environmental temperature and humidity changes is controlled, the frequency offset is small, and the reliability is greatly improved; the use of efficient error correction technology ensures that the communication data is 100% correct; the communication distance is greatly improved, and the cost has been reduced, which can meet the requirements of meter reading. Wireless module communication technology has developed rapidly in recent years. From the frequency point of view, there are two wireless communication technologies. One is ZigBee wireless network technology; the other is 433MHz\470MHz open frequency band wireless communication technology, which is the development of traditional wireless communication technology.
