MicroPython now supports external SDRAM for STM32F7DISCO [Copy link]

 Micropython has started to support the onboard 16M SDRAM of the STM32F7Disc development board. I will find time to update and review the new firmware in the near future.

The biggest problem with SDRAM is that it is expensive. In fact, 16M SDRAM can be replaced by PSRAM. If the bandwidth requirement is not particularly high, it is best to use serial QSPI PSRAM, which has a very simple interface and operation and is also cheap.

psram has lower performance and is more troublesome to use, but other aspects are good.

Actually, no. As far as I know, if the bandwidth requirement is not particularly high, the serial QSPI PSRAM has very simple interface, programming and operation. The SOP8 package has a small PCB size and saves space, has few I/Os and low power consumption, and is very similar to SPI NOR in use.  Details Published on 2019-3-28 11:19

SDRAM is much cheaper than SRAM. As for QSPI, not all chips support it.
