Current Status and Progress of CMOS Radio Frequency Integrated Circuits [Copy link]

With the development of low-power and mobile personal wireless communication and the improvement of CMOS process performance, it
is not only necessary but also possible to use CMOS process to realize the RF front end of wireless communication system. This paper discusses the special issues of realizing RF integrated circuits with CMOS process. First, the architectures of various transceivers are introduced, their advantages and disadvantages are compared, and some issues to be considered in the design are pointed out. Secondly, the important functional units of CMOS RF front end are discussed, including low noise amplifier, mixer, frequency synthesizer and power amplifier. The technical indicators of each unit module in the design, the possible circuit structure and the issues that should be paid attention to are discussed. In addition, the paper also discusses the possibility and method of integrating passive devices such as inductors and capacitors in the RF band. Finally, some opinions are put forward on the development direction of CMOS RF integrated circuits.
