Fairchild Semiconductor Launches 1200V/15A NPT-Trench IGBT to Ensure 300mJ Avalanche Resistance for Induction Heating Applications [Copy link]

Fairchild Semiconductor has announced the launch of a 1200V/15A NPT-Trench IGBT that can withstand up to 300mJ of avalanche energy in induction heating (IH) appliances ; this excellent avalanche performance helps the device achieve "robust " fail-safe operation in abnormal avalanche mode conditions, which usually affect IH appliances such as microwave ovens, IH rice cookers and other IH cookware. FGA15N120ANTD can provide the best compromise between low conduction losses (V CE(sat) , typ = 1.9V) and low switching losses (E off , typ = 0.6mJ) , thereby improving efficiency and significantly reducing the operating temperature of the device.


"Fairchild's NPT-Trench IGBTs provide excellent system robustness in avalanche conditions, a key consideration for IH devices that must operate normally under common unstable power supplies and AC line surges, " said Taehoon Kim, vice president of Fairchild Semiconductor's Functional Power Division . "Based on customer needs, we applied our patented technology to develop this new 1200V/15A NPT-Trench IGBT . The FGA15N120ANTD device delivers outstanding performance, providing designers with the high device efficiency and high reliability operation required for IH appliances."

FGA15N120ANTD is based on a patented Trench cell design and thin wafer NPT process, allowing the device to provide up to 300mJ avalanche performance. When the IH appliance is evaluated using 1.4kW/24kHz, the device 's trade-off between switching and conduction losses can reduce the operating temperature to 34.5°C . In addition to these performance advantages, this compact IGBT also integrates a fast recovery diode (FRD) to help designers reduce the number of components and further enhance system reliability.

the FGA15N120ANTD , Fairchild Semiconductor also offers a wide range of discrete IGBT products from 600V to 1500V for high-power IH applications.
