July 12 , 2006 - Beijing - Linear Technology Corporation introduces the LTC3835, a very low quiescent current step-down DC/DC synchronous controller. In sleep mode, the LTC3835 draws only 80uA , making it ideal for saving battery energy in applications such as car navigation or battery-powered monitoring equipment (in which the system remains semi-operating when the engine or power is off). The LTC3835 's 4V to 36V input supply voltage range is sufficient to protect the device from high input voltage transients and continue to operate during cold-crank conditions. The LTC3835 has a ±1% internal reference and can provide output voltages from 0.8V to 10V , making it ideal for higher voltage supplies required by audio systems, analog tuners and CD/DVD players in general . The controller can deliver up to 20A of load current at up to 95% efficiency . The LTC3835 is rated for operation over a temperature range of -40 ° C to 85 ° C , with a maximum operating junction temperature of 125 ° C .
The LTC3835 's constant frequency, current mode architecture provides excellent line and load regulation. The IC smoothly increases the output voltage at startup with adjustable soft-start and tracking functions. The operating frequency is adjustable from 250kHz to 550kHz and can be synchronized to an external clock from 140kHz to 650kHz . The device also integrates output overvoltage and overcurrent (short circuit) protection circuits.
The LTC3835 version offers PolyPhase operation for current sharing between multiple ICs to provide higher output currents. The LTC3835 is available in 20 -lead TSSOP and 4mm x 5mm QFN packages, while the LTC3835-1 version is available in smaller 16 -pin SSOP and 5mm x 3mm DFN packages. Pricing starts at $ 3.40 each in 1,000- piece quantities .
