Complete solution makes digital power supply design easier
SAN JOSE, Calif. , May 24 , 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Silicon Laboratories, a leading manufacturer of high-performance analog and mixed-signal ICs represented by EDOM Technology ( TSE:3048 ) , a professional electronic component distributor , recently announced the launch of a single-phase POL ( Point Of Load ) reference design that engineers can use to easily and quickly apply digitally controlled POLs to a variety of end applications, including servers, telecommunications, data communications, storage systems, medical equipment, and aviation systems.
This reference design is a 20A POL that is ideal for packaging as a standalone power module or for direct use by OEMs on boards for end applications. This POL reference design includes software to complete system configuration, which maximizes efficiency by implementing dynamic dead time control , provides nonlinear control for fast transient response, and supports SMBus connectivity for industry-standard communication protocols.
The reference design kit includes a complete set of development tools that users can use to modify the POL application code at will. This set of tools includes a powerful set of graphical interface applications and compilation tools, so that designers can complete the initialization of switching timing, loop compensation filters and processor settings without writing any application software. This set of tools also provides an integrated development environment (IDE) , including an editor, a macro assembler, a trial version of the C language compiler, and a set of special debugging tools that allow designers to monitor and adjust system parameters online during power supply operation.
The POL reference design kit also includes complete schematics and PCB (Gerber) files, which can accelerate the time to market of new products and significantly reduce design time and effort. The entire POL only requires an area of 615 square millimeters and can provide a maximum current of 20A for the completed 20A/100W power converter . The POL reference design uses a 4- layer circuit board and includes all necessary connectors and switches for designers to fully evaluate it. This load point also provides a USB error correction adapter, a USB to SMBus communication adapter, a USB cable and a 2Ω load resistor. The only external hardware required to evaluate this kit is an external input power supply.
