Chinese semiconductor industry enters the World Cup, CSIA and WSC exchange glances[Copy link]
"The message I want to convey most is that the semiconductor industry is a highly international industry. China's semiconductor industry and market need the world, and the world's semiconductor industry and market also need China." During the signing ceremony of the "Memorandum of Understanding on the China Semiconductor Industry Association's Joining the World Semiconductor Council" just held in Beijing, Mr. Yu Zhongyu, Chairman of the China Semiconductor Industry Association (CSIA), told me this in a short gap. CSIA joins hands with WSC and enters the "World Cup" During the World Cup, the China Semiconductor Industry Association also played a crucial role. June 15 is an important day. CSIA Chairman Yu Zhongyu and Brian Halla, the rotating chairman of the World Semiconductor Council in 2006 and chairman of the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) of the United States, signed a memorandum of cooperation. The signing of the memorandum marks a new chapter in the cooperation and exchanges between China's semiconductor industry and the world's major semiconductor producing countries/regions. The World Semiconductor Council (WSC) is a non-governmental international organization composed of semiconductor associations of the world's major semiconductor producing countries/regions. In 1998, the China Semiconductor Industry Association and the World Semiconductor Council began to contact each other on CSIA's joining the WSC. After China joined the WTO in 2001, WSC extended an invitation to the China Semiconductor Industry Association, and CSIA responded positively. After five years of repeated consultations and discussions, on May 11, 2006, the World Semiconductor Council adopted the "World Semiconductor Council Establishment Agreement" May 11, 2006 Revised Edition, which complies with the "One China" principle. The two sides reached a consensus on the principles of CSIA joining the WSC, and CSIA immediately began to apply to join the WSC. On June 15, the two sides signed a memorandum of cooperation, which was considered a phased achievement. However, in order for CSIA to become a formal member of the WSC, it must apply to the Chinese government, and it can only officially join the WSC after government approval. Although there is no clear timetable, Mr. Yu Zhongyu said that "this process should be very fast."
