Fujitsu Components America Inc. has introduced its first 4x I/O connector modules that support high-speed signal transmission. The modules increase I/O port density and available space on the printed circuit board (PCB), simplifying the routing of high-speed signals on the main printed circuit board (PCB). The first module in the Multi-IO microGiGaCN series is the FCN-268Y032-A . This is a 2x2 stacking module with four 4x links, meeting InfiniBand, InfiniBand DDR, 10G Fiber Channel and 10GBase-CX4 data rates in 4-channel, bidirectional data transmission mode. The module is designed so that up to 5 modules (20 links) can be installed in a 1U configuration on the motherboard. The FCN-268Y032-A has a rated voltage of 30 Vac and a contact resistance of 240 milliohms (signal)/180 milliohms (ground). When matched, it has a different characteristic impedance of 100 ohms and a rise time of 100 ps. Each 2x2 module connects to the PCB via a Fujitsu high-speed board-to-board mount mezzanine connector rated at 10 Gbits/s. Using only one interface connector per module simplifies board design, reduces the number of components on the board, and provides better EMI protection with a die-cast housing. Link status LEDs and media detection circuitry will be available in future versions. The FCN-268Y032-A is priced at $37.50 in 1,000-unit quantities, and the high-speed interface connector is priced at $7.39 in 1,000-unit quantities.
