SigmaTel Corporation announced the launch of a new series of 8 -channel cinema-quality audio codec products, mainly targeting the fast-growing consumer audio applications such as AV receivers, surround sound processors, set-top boxes, DVD recorders, Hi-Fi systems and PC sound cards. The STAC9480/9481 is another new product that SigmaTel has extended its leading PC audio codec technology to the consumer audio field following the just-launched SGTV58xx high-fidelity TV audio processor series.

The STAC9480/9481 audio codec not only provides a very high performance of DAC signal-to-noise ratio up to 110dB, but also has digital interface connectivity, SPDIF transceiver function and extremely flexible data exchange capabilities, which can ensure the best audio fidelity while facilitating component interconnection. STAC9481 can also support ADAT? optical fiber interface for professional-grade audio equipment.

The STAC9480/9481 is sampling now. SigmaTel also offers the STAC9460/9462 high-performance audio codec family, which supports 2-channel and 6-channel high-performance audio devices.
