Linear introduces low-power 14-bit 600ksps analog-to-digital converter
On April 6, Linear Technology introduced the low-power 14-bit 600ksps analog-to-digital converter (ADC) LTC1408, which has 6 simultaneously sampled differential inputs. This 3-wire serial ADC operates on a single 3V power supply with a typical power consumption of 15mW. The LTC1408 uses a 32-pin (5mm x 5mm) QFN package. Compared with the closest similar devices, the power consumption of the LTC1408 is 1/10 and the package size is 1/5. The device allows the design of compact, battery-powered and portable data acquisition systems. The 6 simultaneously sampled differential inputs make the LTC1408 very suitable for multi-phase power supply measurement, multi-phase motor control, data acquisition systems and uninterruptible power supplies.
When the LTC1408 is not converting, the power consumption in the doze mode can be further reduced to 3.3mW, while the internal 2.5V reference remains operational; it can be reduced to 6uW in the sleep mode, while all internal circuits are powered off. The internal reference can also be overdriven with an external reference up to the analog supply voltage.
The LTC1408 uses 3 input select lines to configure the number of differential inputs to be converted. Therefore higher speeds are possible, from one differential input at 600ksps to 6 differential inputs at 100ksps. The 6 conversion results are sequentially provided to the high-speed DSP serial port through a 3-wire interface. This ADC also has a separate digital output supply pin and a bipolar/unipolar pin to select ±1.25V bipolar or 0V to 2.5V unipolar input range.
The LTC1408 is available in commercial and industrial temperature ranges. Pricing starts at $8.95 in 1,000-piece quantities.
