Automotive electronics applications will be the fastest growing area for sensors [Copy link]

As the functions of automobiles continue to increase, sensors are also beginning to be used in large quantities in the field of automotive electronics. Microchip, a manufacturer of automotive electronic chips, pointed out that in addition to the sensors used in the past for temperature, pressure, humidity, geomagnetism, etc., new technologies including active collision prevention, movable headlight systems, and keyless systems will all use sensors. According to a report by Global Sources, automotive electronics will be the fastest growing industry in the field of sensor applications, among which the annual growth rate of automotive pressure sensors is as high as 30%.
Microchip believes that as the pace of automotive electronics is gradually accelerating, the application level is also more extensive. At present, the Taiwanese automobile market, including Toyota and Ford, has introduced active collision prevention to prevent collisions, and AFS systems that can rotate the headlights when the car turns. At the same time, the keyless system that can open the door and start the engine without a key is expected to be used in Taiwanese cars within 1 to 2 years.
A Taiwanese car manufacturer pointed out that among the many automotive electronic sensors, Taiwanese manufacturers have a better chance of entering the field of accelerometers that measure car speed, tilt, and vibration. Since accelerometers are micro-electric technology, the main mechanism is embedded in the IC chip. With the technology of Taiwanese semiconductor manufacturers, there is a better chance to develop this sensor technology. Currently, the main manufacturers of accelerometers are Freescale, Analog Devices, STMicroelectronics, etc.
At present, the main research and development areas of pressure sensor manufacturers are sputtered thin film pressure sensors and sapphire silicon pressure sensors, while the current focus of temperature and humidity sensor manufacturers is on improving the yield rate, improving the sensing components, and improving the accuracy and reliability.
In addition, according to a report by Global Sources, in 2006, mainland China's sensor manufacturers will produce 2.4 billion sensors, with an output value of US$4 billion, an annual growth rate of 21%. At the beginning of 2006, there were approximately 1,560 sensor manufacturers in mainland China, and it is estimated that the growth will be 30% by the end of 2006. In Taiwan, the sensor export volume in 2006 will reach 91 million, an annual growth rate of 25%, and the total export value will reach US$351.4 million, among which image sensor production will have the largest growth rate.
