ARM11 processor performance exceeds 750MHz [Copy link]

ARM has announced a breakthrough high-performance implementation of the ARM1176JZF-STM processor that exceeds 750MHz in a 90nm foundry process using the ARM? Artisan? AdvantageTM cell library and memory, with a chip area of only 2.4 square millimeters. This significant performance improvement is the result of collaborative design, advanced physical IP and processor technology. The optimized implementation brings industry-leading performance of more than 920 Dhrystone MIPS to existing applications and operating systems without any expensive software redesign or recompilation costs.

Mike Inglis, senior vice president of marketing and business development at ARM, said: "The integration of the industry-leading ARM processor business and the physical IP business acquired through the acquisition of Artisan a year ago has now achieved technical and commercial results. The combined technical teams have worked closely together to bring the industry's best 90nm design to our semiconductor partners to meet the needs of the high-volume digital consumer product market."

This high-performance design is a complete reference plan for the ARM1176JZF-S processor, including 16KB instruction set cache, 16KB data cache, 4x high-performance AMBA? 3 AXITM inline interface to accelerate instruction and data fetches, and a vector floating point unit (VFP). As a member of the award-winning ARM11TM family, the ARM1176JZF-S processor has been widely adopted by next-generation consumer product applications for its high-end performance, excellent power consumption and rich features.

The ARM Advantage series of cell libraries and memories can provide high-performance, low-power out-of-the-box solutions for the growing demands of digital home, entertainment and other high-end applications. The ARM Advantage series strengthens the effective collaboration between ARM processors and physical IP. These two complementary technologies enable ARM to provide the industry's most extensive system-on-chip (SoC) IP products, providing processor implementations optimized in terms of performance and power consumption for deep submicron chip designs.

The ARM1176JZF-S synthesizable processor is specifically targeted at consumer and wireless products including digital TVs, set-top boxes, game consoles, and mobile phones. This processor uses ARM Jazelle? Java acceleration technology, ARM TrustZone? technology (key technology specifically for providing security performance for consumer products running open operating systems such as Symbian OS, Linux, and Windows CE) and a vector floating point (VFP) coprocessor (providing powerful acceleration capabilities for embedded 3D graphics).
