Information Industry Development
(I) Rapid Development of Information Industry, and Continuous Expansion of Industry Scale
In recent years, the information industry in our city has developed rapidly, and has initially formed an industrial system with a certain scale and technical level for software product development, electronic information product manufacturing, and integrated circuit design, production, and sales. In August 2001, our city was identified by the State Planning Commission and the Ministry of Information Industry as one of the 11 national software industry bases. In March 2003, it became the Guangdong Province Integrated Circuit Design and Production Base. Subsequently, it became the National Integrated Circuit Design Industrialization Base Park.
1. Software Industry and Major Software Products
The software industry has developed rapidly. Since the end of the 1980s, a group of well-known domestic software projects and developers have come to Zhuhai to engage in the development and application of software products and related technologies. Especially in the field of Chinese information processing, many well-known products at home and abroad were produced in the early days. For example: Kingsoft's WPS series products, Giant Chinese processing system, Stone 4S typesetting system, Jinfeng high-precision Chinese character library, etc., have laid a good foundation for the development of Zhuhai's software industry.
After more than ten years of development, Zhuhai's software industry has basically formed a product structure with supporting software and application software as the main body, and a group of software companies with strong strength and well-known products have emerged. In terms of Chinese information processing, e-government systems, large-scale simulation systems, banking software systems, power system financial software, power industry application systems, digital medical imaging systems, various MIS systems and ERP system software, network and e-commerce software, online games, education and entertainment software, etc., it is at the leading level in China and occupies a large market share. Some projects have reached the international advanced level. Key enterprises such as Kingsoft Software Co., Ltd., Gaoling Information Technology Co., Ltd., Youte Power Products Co., Ltd., Yafang Technology Co., Ltd., Yuanguang New Era Software Co., Ltd., Chuangwo Technology Development Co., Ltd., Yichu Electronic Technology Co., Ltd. Zhuhai Branch, Keguang Electronics (Zhuhai) Co., Ltd., and Yida Technology Electronics Co., Ltd. have emerged. At present, the famous software brands in our city include: Kingsoft's WPS series products, Kingsoft PowerWord, Kingsoft Antivirus, Xishanju Games, Yafang's power station simulation system, Youtong's digital medical imaging system, Yuanguang New Era's power system financial software, Tongwang's highway engineering cost management system, Jinfeng high-precision Chinese character library, etc. It is particularly worth mentioning that Kingsoft's slogan "Let Kingsoft's software run on every computer" is becoming a reality.
In recent years, the software industry in our city has developed rapidly, maintaining an average annual growth rate of more than 40%. In 1999, the output value of the software industry in our city was 700 million yuan, 1 billion yuan in 2000, 1.6 billion yuan in 2001, and 2.332 billion yuan in 2002, ranking third in the province, an increase of 46% over the previous year, and the growth rate ranked first in the province. In 2003, it was 3.5 billion yuan. Up to now, there are 158 certified software companies in the city, with 545 software products.
2. Integrated Circuit Industry
Zhuhai's integrated circuit industry has formed a relatively complete industrial chain including semiconductor material production, design, chip production, packaging, etc., and is the integrated circuit design and production base of Guangdong Province.
There are 15 integrated circuit companies in our city, including 8 integrated circuit design companies, 3 integrated circuit production companies (Nanke, Huajing, Shunfeng Semiconductor), 1 semiconductor material production company, and 3 integrated circuit card design and production companies. There are more than 2,000 employees, and the output value of the entire industry has reached 1 billion yuan.
At present, the integrated circuit design public technology platform (EDA) has begun construction. The platform office area is more than 1,000 square meters, and will set up design studios, training classrooms, and exhibition halls. The platform forms an integrated circuit remote design platform with the Shenzhen base through remote sharing.
——The integrated circuit design industry
has currently formed an integrated circuit design enterprise group with Keguang Electronics Co., Ltd. and Jieli Integrated Circuit Design Co., Ltd. as the main ones.
There are currently 8 integrated circuit design companies in Zhuhai, among which Keguang, Jieli, and Orbit are well-known integrated circuit design companies in the industry. Keguang and Jieli are at the leading level in China.
Keguang Electronics (Zhuhai) Co., Ltd. is a research and development center established by T-Square of the United States with an investment of US$800,000. It was established in October 1997 and currently has 132 employees, all of whom have bachelor's degrees or above from domestic famous universities, and 105 design and development personnel. Currently, it designs SOC (System on Chip), 56K Modem chips, WinCE, Linux, 3D stereo, MIDI electronic synthesizers and effects, equalizers, computer sound card chips, TV set-top boxes and other products. The output value reached 18.63 million yuan in 2002, and all products were exported. 20.74 million yuan in 2003.
Zhuhai Actions Integrated Circuit Design Co., Ltd. is an IC design company co-founded by an experienced IC design management team and a well-known Taiwanese IC design company, with a total investment of 10 million US dollars. It currently has 125 employees, including 70 technical developers. The company is mainly engaged in the design, development and testing of ultra-large-scale integrated circuits, and its products cover the fields of audio-visual, communication, information and high-end consumer ICs. In terms of technology, it has the internationally advanced 6 million gate CMOS digital-analog hybrid design, high-low voltage hybrid design and low-noise, low-power IC design technology, and has the ability to independently develop and design IP cores such as 4/8/16/32 bit CPU, 16/24/32 bit DSP, Σ-ΔCODEC, and has opened up the global market in the SOC field. In 2002, the output was 5.7 million units, with an output value of 1.132 million yuan (the company previously invested mainly in product development and has only recently started sales, so the output value is relatively small). In 2003, the output was 26.9 million units, the output value was 46.03 million yuan, and the profit was 1.1 million yuan.
Orbita (Zhuhai) Software Engineering Co., Ltd. is a private high-tech enterprise founded by returned overseas students, with a registered capital of 17.9 million Hong Kong dollars. The company specializes in computer operating systems and chip design, mainly including: embedded operating systems (EOS), application-specific chips (ASIC) and their application platforms, and the research and development of Linux operating systems. Products include embedded operating systems (ORBITA EOS), SAILING S368 processors, onboard computers, digital computers, engine control computers, and Linux server/desktop versions. At present, the design and verification of the first generation of 32-bit RISC embedded processors (SAILING S368) with independent intellectual property rights, real-time multi-tasking embedded operating systems (ORBITA EOS) and their integrated development environment (Orbita EOS IDE) have been completed. In May 2003, after more than a year of research and development, Orbita launched the world's first SPARC V8 series commercial embedded processor S698. The output value in 2002 was nearly 20 million. 14 million yuan in 2003, with a profit of 2.2 million yuan.
Jianrong Integrated Circuit Technology (Zhuhai) Co., Ltd. is an IC enterprise mainly engaged in chip design. The company was established in August 2003 and is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hong Kong Jianrong International Co., Ltd. The company currently has more than 20 outstanding professional design engineers from home and abroad. The company's CEO, Mr. Zheng Zhuorong, holds 9 US patents. He has been engaged in microprocessor architecture research, design and project management in Silicon Valley for more than 15 years. He is the founder of Scenix, Ubicom and Advancel Logic (later spin into Cerent). The company has a young and experienced chip design team and has successfully developed 100 MIPS SX microprocessors, SDH/SONET chipsets, Pentium compatible processors and 100 MIPS MicroSPARC II processors for SUN SPARC 5 systems.
Shengchang Software Technology and Yishidai Electronic Technology are newly established wholly-owned integrated circuit design companies by Taiwanese businessmen, with no more than 20 employees in each company. Shengchang Software Technology is mainly engaged in the design and development of air-conditioning terminal controller chips, with an output value of about 2 million. Yishidai Electronic Technology is mainly engaged in the design and development of electronic dictionary chips.
In addition, Integrated Circuit Chip Design Co., Ltd. under Zhuhai Nanke Group is also an enterprise engaged in integrated circuit design and development. In 2003, the design income was 59.91 million yuan.
——The integrated circuit manufacturing industry includes single crystal silicon production, integrated circuit chip production, integrated circuit testing and packaging, and thick film hybrid integrated circuit production. At present, Zhuhai's integrated circuit manufacturing companies are mainly Zhuhai Huajing Co., Ltd. of Zhuhai Nanke Group and Shunfeng Semiconductor, which settled in Zhuhai in March 2003.
Nanke Group is a wholly-owned enterprise by Taiwanese businessmen. It is currently the only integrated circuit design and production manufacturer in South China with the production level and capacity of six-inch wafers. It is the only professional enterprise in mainland China, except Wuxi Huajing Company, that is engaged in IC design, raw material wafer manufacturing, integrated circuit production and testing, and complete packaging operations (IDM). The total investment is 30 million US dollars. In 2002, the output value was RMB 130 million and the profit was RMB 12 million. The group currently has more than 500 employees, 38% of whom have a college degree or above (including more than 20 master's and doctoral students). It has four wholly-owned enterprises: Zhuhai Nanke Electronics Co., Ltd. (ATC), Nanke Monocrystalline Silicon Co., Ltd. (SILICONA), Nanke Integrated Electronics Co., Ltd. (ACSMC), and Nanke Integrated Circuit Chip Design Co., Ltd. (IC DESIGN).
Nanke Group currently has a 6-inch silicon gate 0.6μm, aluminum gate 1.0μm CMOS integrated circuit production line, with a monthly production capacity of 25,000 wafers and a pass rate of more than 90%. The monthly production capacity of single crystal polished wafers is more than 100,000 pieces, the monthly production capacity of testing and sorting is 100 million pieces, and the monthly production of consumer ICs is more than 80 million pieces.
The main products include consumer ICs, computer peripheral application ICs, and control chips for toy remote control, clocks, display drivers, measurement and detection, calculators, voice and music processing, color light control, PC and peripheral circuits, energy-saving lamps, mobile phone batteries, and switching power supplies.
Currently, the Nanke 8-inch/0.25μm integrated circuit production line is under construction. The Nanke Integrated Circuit Manufacturing Technology Park, which covers an area of more than 80,000 square meters, is listed as a key development project in the Tenth Five-Year Plan of Guangdong Province.
Zhuhai Huajing Co., Ltd. is jointly built by three companies with a total investment of RMB 8.06 million and 100 employees. It specializes in the design and production of power thick-film hybrid integrated circuits. Most of its products are exported. In 2002, the output was 50 million units with an output value of RMB 32.06 million. In 2003, the output was 60 million units with an output value of RMB 42.2 million. The products include various thick-film voltage-stabilized power supplies, power amplifier circuits and special thick-film hybrid integrated circuits.
Shunfeng Semiconductor Co., Ltd. settled in Zhuhai in April 2003. The total investment of the project is US$100 million, with an initial investment of US$50 million. The project includes semiconductor materials, integrated circuit design, 6-inch analog bipolar integrated circuit chip manufacturing, integrated circuit testing, packaging and company operation center and training center.
IC card professional manufacturing occupies an important position in Zhuhai's integrated circuit industry. Zhuhai Eastcompeace Smart Card Co., Ltd., Zhuhai Yida Technology Electronics Co., Ltd., and Zhuhai Goldbond Baojia Group are professional IC card design and production enterprises.
Zhuhai Eastcompeace Smart Card Co., Ltd. is a state-owned joint-stock high-tech enterprise. It is the largest mobile communication SIM card, CDMA system UIM card and contactless ID card R&D and production enterprise in Asia, reaching the international leading level. In 2002, the output value was more than 500 million yuan. In 2003, it was 600 million yuan (including sales of 598 million yuan).
Zhuhai Yida Technology Electronics Co., Ltd. is a private high-tech enterprise with an investment of 12 million yuan and 65 employees. The public transportation IC card application system it developed has reached the international advanced level and has a market share of 80% in the cities where it has been opened. In 2002, the output value was 40 million yuan. In 2003, it was 36 million yuan and the profit was 4.07 million yuan.
Goldbond Baojia Group is a Sino-foreign joint venture with 450 employees and a total investment of 100 million yuan. It produces 40 million smart cards and contactless IC cards annually, reaching the international leading level. Mainly used in government, banking and security fields. It accounts for nearly 60% of the domestic bank card market. The output value in 2002 was 130 million yuan. In 2003, it was 163 million yuan, with a profit of 33 million yuan.

The main products of the electronic information product manufacturing industry include computer peripheral products, network products, communication terminals, instruments and meters, audio-visual products, audio-visual products, semiconductor discrete devices, chip components, resistors and capacitors, inductors, control components, electrical connection components, electronic cables, electronic materials, etc. Zhuhai is also an important domestic printed circuit board production base with high production technology and production capacity. Zhuhai is also an important domestic mobile phone production and export base. According to the latest statistics from Gongbei Customs, Zhuhai exported a total of 5.017 million mobile phones in 2003, with an export value of US$442 million. Zhuhai's mobile phone exports account for more than 5% of the national mobile phone exports. In addition, Zhuhai also has certain advantages in power automation equipment, medical electronic products, printer consumables, laser video disc players, etc.
