The dispute between China and the United States over wireless LAN standards: WAPI Alliance strikes back[Copy link]
Faced with injustice, the battle for WAPI international standards is a long way to go.
On March 7 this year, according to the voting results of member countries announced by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the Chinese standard received only 22% support, while the American standard received about 80% support, which means that the Chinese standard will lose the possibility of becoming a global standard. Subsequently, the WAPI Alliance publicly accused American standard-leading member companies including Intel of violating international rules during the voting period and inciting other countries to vote against the Chinese standard, and the voting results were unfair.
Correspondingly, there are reports that the materials prepared by China for the appeal alone are as long as 38 pages. The focus of its appeal is that the voting process violated the normal procedures. Under the relevant influence of the American standards organization, the voting environment is not fair.
Whether WAPI can become another international standard after TD-SCDMA, we will have to wait and see.
