I have read the first few chapters of this book and I agree with some of the ideas in the book. For example, the idea of "it is better to let the road wait for the car than to let the car wait for the road" is very insightful.

This has affected the development of the industry, and this is something we should be aware of in our daily lives. I also deeply resonate with the concepts of software-driven new leaps - software-defined cars,

Therefore, I personally think that embedded development will have a greater demand and prospect in the field of new energy vehicles.

At the same time, I read the following chapters and was deeply touched by a lot of the content, so I would like to share some of my thoughts based on my own work and the two aspects related to the software introduced in the book, namely the battery management system and motor technology.

Battery management systems are ready to go

Batteries are the most important components of new energy vehicles, especially when range anxiety is prevalent.

The battery management system will be an important system, so I personally think that the software development of the battery management system will also be a position with great demand.

The book mentions the high-voltage and low-voltage parts of battery management. The main function is to manage charging and discharging, but the battery management system is not just as simple as charging and discharging. It involves charging pile interaction, how to charge as quickly as possible, battery detection, temperature control, how to protect the battery, etc. It also involves battery balancing to balance the differences between cells and achieve overall maximum efficiency and life. Battery balancing alone is a very important technology. I have also done similar work in aerospace companies, and it can also be applied to the automotive industry.

How to accurately detect the remaining battery power is also a difficult technology, and it may not even be possible at present.

In high and low temperature areas, different operating conditions will cause the estimated remaining mileage to fluctuate too much, which is much more obvious than fuel vehicles, making mileage anxiety more obvious.

How to achieve fault diagnosis and safety, etc. For example, battery combustion is a very tricky problem now. At the software level, we can also consider how to detect anomalies and how to achieve isolation.

There are also charging pile protocols, communications, networking, etc. So it can be seen that the battery management system is also a very large system, and there are many technical problems at the software level that need to be solved and can be continuously improved, so this is also a fertile ground for embedded developers to cultivate.

Motor technology is developing rapidly

As mentioned earlier, batteries are used as energy sources to provide power, and the motor is the power actuator that ultimately moves the car. Therefore, the motor drive will also be an important part of automotive software. I have also developed motors for automotive electronics, from fan motors, water pump motors, to window motor drives, etc. I can feel that the demand for motor drive development is increasing. I also feel that it pays better than general embedded development, and this is also a better career choice.

Here we have to mention the FOC algorithm of brushless motors. It can be said that if you master the FOC algorithm, it is not difficult to get a good salary or even a high salary. Its application is not only in automotive electronics, but also in home electronics, industry, and consumer electronics. Of course, the book also mentions the power devices required for motor drive, such as IGBT, etc. These basic devices and technologies may not be paid attention to, but they are also very important and even a bottleneck. Therefore, an industry needs strong basic industrial support.

Summarize

After reading the subsequent chapters of this book, I was deeply touched by many of the contents in the book. I can also see that the author is very familiar with the industry and has very rich practical experience. He has a relatively good understanding of the current situation in all aspects.

Therefore, the introductions to many technologies and industries are very real and accurate. As an embedded developer, I have also been a developer of automotive electronic software, and I have a deep understanding of it, especially battery management systems, motor drives, etc. In fact, this part of the software still has a lot of deficiencies and development prospects, and there is a big gap compared to the world's advanced national enterprises, so I personally think that the majority of embedded developers can also consider choosing a specific subdivided technology field and delve into it to the extreme.

When I was in school, motor control algorithms were basically mature, but some algorithms depended on computing power. Now that computing power has increased, algorithms are no longer a problem. We only need to optimize special conditions.
