The JTAG interface is an interface for downloading programs, and it is also an interface that is often plugged in and out while powered on. As we all know, plugging in and out while powered on will inevitably generate some surges or ESD electrostatic discharges. Therefore, if some protective measures are not taken, it is very easy for surge ESD electrostatic discharges to break down JTAG-related pins, and even damage the core components inside the CPU, causing permanent damage to the internal circuits. In response to the surge electrostatic problem of the JTAG interface, Dongwo Electronic Technology has designed a protection scheme diagram and recommended corresponding models of protection devices.
Dongwo JTAG interface surge electrostatic protection solution diagram (ESD diode part)
As can be seen from the scheme diagram, Dongwo Electronic Technology recommends the use of 4 ESD diodes DW03DPF-BS to protect its interface. Dongwo DW03DPF-B-S5 has an operating voltage of 3.3V, a clamping voltage of 9.4V, a low leakage current of 0.5uA, and a junction capacitance as low as 60pF. According to IEC 61000-4-2, it can be used to provide ESD protection up to ±30kV (air discharge)/±30kV (contact discharge); according to IEC 61000-4-5, it can withstand a peak pulse current of 30A (8/20us) and a peak pulse power of 330W (8/20us), providing reliable electrostatic and surge protection for interface chips. Dongwo DW03DPF-BS is bidirectional and uses a small DFN1006-2L package to facilitate PCB wiring.
Dongwo JTAG interface surge electrostatic protection solution diagram ( Schottky diode part)
As can be seen from the scheme diagram, Dongwo Electronic Technology uses clamping diodes to protect the signal interface. The diode uses the Schottky diode BAT54S launched by Dongwo Electronics. The device has a reverse cut-off voltage of 30V, a forward current of 0.2A, and a leakage as low as 2uA. Under the chip's 3.3V operating voltage, the signal level can be clamped at around ±4.1V, thereby better protecting the interface chip from static electricity or surges.
