I disassembled an Ericsson T12 soldering station. I bought their T12 soldering iron core before. It is durable and has been burned red several times without affecting the use. This time I bought one of their soldering stations to see the effect. The one I bought is the upgraded T100, which costs 238 yuan per set. In fact, it uses a dot matrix screen, which can have more settings, but it doesn't feel very useful in actual use. The basic T12A costs 168 yuan and only has a temperature display.

This soldering iron includes a controller, a handle and a soldering iron stand. After it arrived, I felt that the workmanship was shoddy and the handle was a bit rough, but at a price of over 200 yuan, I guess this is the quality I expect.

The main unit uses two aluminum shells, the upper and lower parts, fixed with 8 screws in total. Many similar soldering irons in China use this kind of shell. A knob on the right is used to adjust the temperature, and a 5-core aviation plug on the left is used to connect the wire of the soldering iron tip.

The handle is relatively light, and the anti-bending wire guard connector at the tail is put on the cable, unlike the common wires that are pressed, so it is easier to remove.

The soldering iron heats up quickly when powered on. The official website states that it takes 6 seconds to solder the solder, and this is basically the case in actual tests.

Its handle has a sleep function. After being left for a period of time, the main unit will automatically enter sleep mode. After the handle is moved, it will automatically return to temperature, preventing the soldering iron tip from burning dry when not used for a long time, and also saving some electricity bills.

This is the blueing photo I posted on the forum last time. Some people say it is induction heating, but in fact it is using an adjustable power supply to continuously power the soldering iron core, which will glow over time. After annealing, the soldering iron tip will have a blueing effect, which does not affect normal use. This is mainly to see if the soldering iron tip is durable.

You can remove the screen assembly by removing the 4 screws on the front panel. It has only 2 wires connecting to the back, which means the main control parts are implemented on it, and there is only a switch power supply at the back.

The main components of the motherboard are all on the front, with only a screen on the back.

There is a CKS32F030K6T6 microcontroller on the main control board. It is an ARM 32-bit Cortex-M0 microcontroller from Zhongkexin Company. The maximum frequency can reach 48MHz. The main functions include screen display, function setting, and soldering iron core temperature measurement and control.

The SOT32-6 chip on the left is the ME3116 step-down DC/DC regulator from Weimob Electronics. It has a maximum input of 40V and a load of up to 1A. It is used to reduce the 24V input of the switching power supply to a voltage that the microcontroller can operate on.

In the upper right corner is an AP9579GM, a P-channel field effect transistor, which is used to control the on and off of the power supply of the soldering iron core heating coil, thereby controlling the temperature.

The 7A8 SOT23-6 chip under the AP9579GM is a dual NPN triode, the model of which is MUN5211DW1 from ON Semiconductor. I didn’t see the brand, so it may also be a domestic chip. One of them is used to drive the field speaker, and the other is used to control the on/off of the AP9579GM.

The square device in the upper left corner is a buzzer. The silk screen below it says 541L0, but I can't find the specific model. It should be a single-channel amplifier, which is used to amplify the voltage of the soldering iron core thermocouple and then collect it by the ADC of CKS32F030K6T6.

The power board below is a 220 to 24V switching power supply. The PCB manufacturing date is March 2021. The contact with the outer shell is fixed with glue. There are no devices on the back of the circuit board.

The power control chip is Qichen Micro's CR6842, a green energy-saving PWM controller with frequency jitter.

In addition to the main control and power supply, there are also circuits in the handle. There are 5 aviation plug interfaces and pads on the circuit board of the controller, but only 4 wires are actually used.

Two of them are used to heat and measure the temperature of the coil inside the soldering iron core, and the other two are connected to a ball switch to detect whether the handle has not been used for a long time and thus enters a sleep state.

People who don't know the principle of T12 may ask, how can two wires measure temperature and heat? In fact, it has a heating wire made of two materials inside, which is equivalent to a thermocouple. When heating, the MOS tube is turned on, the heating wire (thermocouple) is energized, and the temperature starts to rise. When measuring, the MOS tube is turned off, and the hot and cold ends of the heating wire (thermocouple) have a temperature difference, so it will output a millivolt voltage. Measuring this voltage can get the temperature of the soldering iron tip.

If it does not reach the preset temperature, just repeat the previous steps and turn on the MOS tube again for a while and then measure again to control the temperature to reach the preset value. The voltage of the heating wire (thermocouple) is in the millivolt level. In order to ensure the measurement accuracy and resolution, an amplifier is needed to amplify the voltage before it can be measured by ADC. Because heating and temperature measurement share a set of wires, the voltage during heating is 24V, so it is also necessary to add a resistor and a diode before the heating wire (thermocouple) enters the amplifier to clamp the voltage within the acceptable range of the amplifier to prevent burning out the measurement circuit.
