iQOO 200W and 120W GaN ultra-fast flash charging [Copy link]

This post was last edited by qwqwqw2088 on 2022-9-13 10:39

The iQOO 10 Pro phone has increased the power of ultra-fast flash charging from 120W to 200W. It only takes 10 minutes to fully charge the 4700mAh large-capacity battery, further improving the fast charging experience.

The two chargers look similar in size, but their output power is greatly improved. The 200W fast charging output current is as high as 10A, far exceeding the 5A specification of the USB-C interface and the 6A current of the previous generation product. We disassembled and compared the two chargers and analyzed their internal designs to see how the internal designs of the two ultra-fast flash charging chargers differ.

As iQOO family chargers, the iQOO 200W charger and 120W charger have exactly the same shape, with a high-gloss finish on the waist and the pins arranged on one side for easy plugging and unplugging. The 200W and 120W logos on the front of the body can easily distinguish the two chargers.

Size/Power Density

The iQOO 200W charger is measured to have dimensions of 61.05*56.4*28.89mm, with a power density of 2.01W/cm, setting a new record in the mobile phone fast charging industry. The iQOO 120W charger is measured to have dimensions of 60.81*52.32*28.85mm, with a power density of 1.31W/cm.

interface

Both the iQOO 200W and 120W chargers are equipped with a single USB-C port. The former has a centrally designed port, while the latter has one port on one side.

 Nameplate

The input end shells of the iQOO 200W and 120W chargers are gray and orange respectively, and both are printed with charger parameter information.

weight

The iQOO 200W charger is measured to weigh about 150g, and the 120W charger weighs about 136g.

Internal structure

  Front layout

The front layout of the two chargers' PCBAs is almost the same. The upper right corner is the input fuse and EMI filter circuit. The rectifier bridge is welded on the right side of the PCB. The left side is a planar transformer. The right side of the planar transformer is a high-voltage filter electrolytic capacitor. The 200W flash charging USB-C socket is welded on a vertical small board to save internal space, and the 120W flash charging USB-C socket is welded on the main board. The 120W flash charging PFC circuit is welded on an independent small board to reduce the volume and use space in a three-dimensional way.

Back layout

The back of the two charger PCBA modules is shown below. The primary main control chip is welded in the upper middle, the GaN power chip of Nano-Micro is welded on the right, and two diodes are welded at the bottom for PFC bypass. The planar transformers are all sunken board designs to reduce the thickness of the charger body.

The PFC controller of the 200W flash charger is soldered on the lower left corner, and the chip Y capacitor and feedback optocoupler are soldered on the right side. The 120W flash charger has the PFC circuit arranged on an independent small board. There is another difference. The 200W flash charger has the protocol chip soldered on the vertical USB-C mother board, while the 120W flash charger has the protocol chip soldered on the main board.

  Workmanship and materials

  PFC Boost Controller

The PFC controllers for both chargers are from ON Semiconductor, model NCP1623, which is based on the innovative Valley Synchronous Frequency Foldback (VSFF) method. VSFF can maximize efficiency under nominal load and light load conditions, operate in critical mode at heavy load, operate in discontinuous conduction mode at light load, and support valley switching to improve efficiency.

  Primary controller

The primary main control chip of both chargers uses Dialog iW9802, which is a high-performance digital switch power supply flyback controller that supports zero voltage switching and adaptive multi-mode control operation. When used with a secondary controller, it can achieve a high power density and high output accuracy design. iW9802 can be used together with Dialog's secondary side controller to provide no-load power consumption of less than 20mW.

Synchronous Rectification Controller

The built-in synchronous rectification controller of the two chargers comes from MPS, model MP6908A, with a maximum operating frequency of 600KHz, supports DCM/CCM/QR quasi-resonant operating modes, built-in ringing detection to prevent false start-up under DCM and QR operation, and supports logic voltage and standard voltage synchronous rectifier tubes.

Protocol Chip

The protocol chip built into the 200W flash charger is printed with GJ=9D, which comes from Richtek Technology. The protocol chip built into the 120W flash charger is also from Richtek Technology, with H0=8K printed on it.

  PFC boost switch

The PFC boost switch tubes of both chargers use Navitas NV6136A, a highly integrated GaN power chip with built-in driver and high-precision lossless current sampling circuit to eliminate the loss of sampling resistor. NV6136A has a built-in 170mΩ on-resistance, a 700V withstand voltage GaN switch tube, supports 2MHz switching frequency, and uses a 6*8mm QFN package to save area.

The primary switch tube of both chargers is Navitas NV6136A, which is the same model as the PFC boost switch tube.

Synchronous rectifier

The synchronous rectifiers of both chargers are from Weizhao Semiconductor. The 200W flash charging output current reaches 10A, using two VSP003N10HS-G in parallel for synchronous rectification, while the 120W flash charging uses a single one for synchronous rectification. Weizhao VSP003N10HS-G is a 100V withstand voltage NMOS with a conduction resistance of 3.8mΩ and is packaged in PDFN5x6.

capacitance

The high-voltage filter capacitors of both chargers are from AiSHi, with specifications of 420V82μF.

Two 330μF 25V solid-state capacitors are soldered to the 200W flash charging planar transformer, and two 560μF 25V solid-state capacitors are soldered to the charger motherboard for filtering, with a total capacitor capacity of 1780μF.

Two 220μF 25V solid-state capacitors are soldered to the 120W flash charging planar transformer, and a 560μF 25V solid-state capacitor filter is soldered on the charger motherboard, with a total capacitor capacity of 1000μF.
