How to solve the motor efficiency and temperature rise problems caused by motor controllers [Copy link]

Regardless of the type of motor controller or inverter, there are varying degrees of harmonic voltage and current during operation, causing the motor to operate under non-sinusoidal voltage and current. Harmonics will cause an increase in the motor's stator copper loss, rotor copper loss, iron loss and additional losses, directly leading to a decrease in the motor's true efficiency and the possibility of excessive temperature rise. Therefore, when designing or selecting a motor controller, the harmonic content of its output signal is an important indicator.

Solutions to motor efficiency and temperature rise issues caused by motor controllers

Since the output signal of the motor controller needs to be harmonic analyzed, a wide-band harmonic analyzer must be used. The current industry practice is to use a multi-channel power analyzer to assemble a motor test system for testing. As shown in the figure, during the test, the electrical and mechanical parameters of the motor and driver are collected in real time. While analyzing the real-time individual efficiency of the motor and controller, the harmonic test results can also be recorded to consider the relationship between the other efficiencies.
