"Circuit Garden" by artist Kelly Heaton [Copy link]

Original article: https://blog.adafruit.com/2022/03/14/circuit-garden-by-artist-kelly-heaton-on-view-2-28-4-8-at-450-west-33rd-street-nyc/

Artist Kelly Heaton presents a large circuit board in the form of an artificial lawn, “planted” with plush sculptural electronic devices. The piece is reminiscent of a play garden, or a vintage circuit board that has been scaled up to human scale. Nestled within Circuit Garden’s landscape, viewers will discover smaller functional circuits that mimic animal behavior, such as birdsong and cricket chirps. As viewers approach the installation for further investigation, Heaton’s analog electronic designs produce these naturalistic sounds in real time. As a result, Circuit Garden’s soundscape is brought to life by artificially generated electrical vibrations, rather than recordings of real birds and crickets as one might expect.
