As portable medical devices have become a new growth trend, equipment manufacturers are looking for technologies and products that can reduce development difficulty and shorten time to market. TI's MSP430 ultra-low power MCU product series can fully meet engineers' needs for MCUs that provide low power consumption, high performance, and targeted peripheral integration, helping them quickly and efficiently develop medical devices with advantages such as reliability, convenience, and low cost.
At present, the demands of the medical electronics market can be divided into four aspects, namely portability, high performance and high precision, low power consumption and low cost; therefore, portable consumer healthcare products have become an unstoppable trend. The MCU used in portable medical products needs to meet the technical requirements of high integration, high flexibility, high code efficiency and processing power, and ultra-low power consumption. Higher flexibility is mainly achieved by reducing the CPU occupancy and configurable architecture; the improvement of code efficiency depends on the support of high-level languages. In terms of integration, SoC products are generally selected to realize both digital and analog functions, save PCB board space, and effectively reduce the system BOM. Needless to say, the benefits of reducing system power consumption to the system are not only to extend the use time of the equipment, but also to reduce the cost of the battery; in addition, the power conditions of both working and standby should also be considered when designing and selecting devices.
The MSP430FG47x series MCUs realize on-chip integration of the complete signal chain, which not only reduces design complexity, but also significantly saves space and cost. These devices will help developers improve the quality of medical services and product usability, and meet the needs of a variety of products such as blood glucose meters, digital thermometers, pulse oximeters, and blood pressure/heart rate monitors. The complete blood glucose meter only needs one MSP430. If the typical number of measurements per day is about 1 to 2 times, the power consumption of the entire system is 2uA, powered by a button battery, and the entire product can work for five to ten years without replacing the battery.
