Explaining Infineon's largest acquisition in history: the $10 billion cash acquisition of Cypress [Copy link]

Recently, German chip company Infineon announced that it would acquire Cypress Semiconductor for 9 billion euros in cash, or about 10 billion US dollars, at a price of 23.85 US dollars per share, a 33% premium over the 17.82 US dollars before the news, which shows Infineon's recognition of Cypress.

After announcing the acquisition, Infineon's official website provided a series of information, listing the reasons for the transaction, future strategies, market position, financial vision, etc. The relevant PPT is as follows:

Acquisition of Cypress 英飞凌.pdf (2.76 MB, downloads: 27)

After selling its wireless business to Intel and its RF power business to Cree, Infineon has focused more on the automotive and industrial markets and needs some mergers and acquisitions to fill the market gaps, which is why the industry reported that Infineon was going to acquire STMicroelectronics in 2018. Under the leadership of Cypress's new CEO Hassane El-Khoury, Cypress's 3.0 strategy is working, allowing the company to make rapid progress in the automotive, industrial and IoT fields, and has been recognized by Infineon and other industries.

If you have anything to say about this acquisition, please leave a comment and share!

I saw Cypress launch AC-DC some time ago, but I didn’t expect it to be acquired by Infineon just a few days later.

Infineon also occupies a lot of market share in power devices, and this acquisition looks more like a strong combination with complementary advantages.
