Tips for testing the phase and amplitude time curve of mobile phone amplifiers [Copy link]

Reuse of amplifier designs is a common method used by mobile communication designers to minimize manufacturing bill of materials costs when developing new networks. For example, the same power amplifier ( PA ) developed for GSM and GPRS can also be used in EGPRS applications. However, unlike GSM and GPRS , EGPRS is very sensitive to nonlinearities in the PA, which can significantly degrade the performance of EGPRS phones. To use a GSM PA in EGPRS , developers must add correction factors to compensate for the amplifier's nonlinearities. These correction factors correspond to time-varying curves of phase and amplitude, and they are also needed during production testing to ensure that the EGPRS phone is transmitting properly.
