Virtual Instrument for Determining the BH Loop Characteristics of Magnetic Cores[Copy link]
Virtual Instrument for Determining BH Loop Characteristics of a Magnetic Core When designing inductive components that contain magnetic core material, engineers must accurately measure the characteristics of that material. The dynamic hysteresis loop (or BH curve) of the core contains valuable information about the core losses and other magnetic parameters. Unfortunately, commercial magnetic loop analyzers are expensive and not suitable for small research laboratories and manufacturers . This Design Idea describes a virtual instrument that uses a desktop or laptop computer combined with an analog data acquisition card and LabView software ( version 7.1 or later) from National Instruments ( www.ni.com ) . When used, the software extracts BH loop information, core losses, and other magnetic parameters at an affordable cost.
