DFT is a Fourier transform that is discrete in both the time domain and the frequency domain. It is suitable for numerical calculation and has a fast algorithm. It is a common mathematical tool for realizing signal spectrum analysis using computers. This article introduces the basic process of using DFT to analyze signal spectrum, focusing on the causes of errors in the spectrum analysis process and the main measures to reduce analysis errors. Examples are given of the implementation procedures of spectrum analysis in the MATLAB environment. By comparing with theoretical analysis, the spectral aliasing, spectral leakage and fence effect that exist when using DFT to analyze signal spectrum are explained, and corresponding improvement methods are proposed.
