CAN protocol and CAN driver? [Copy link]

CAN driver is the same as the underlying protocol principle

The CAN protocol is defined by each OEM and can be different

To be precise, the physical layer must be the same, so that they can be interconnected. CAN only specifies the physical layer standard, and the protocol layer is not a mandatory standard, so it can be "personalized".

I'm not sure what you mean by CAN driver. Generally speaking, driver refers to something like code. But I think you want to express something about the protocol.

So according to your direction, I think CAN driver generally refers to the CAN2.0 protocol, which was first defined and promoted by Bosch.

But there are 8 bytes in the CAN message, and these 8 bytes can be used for other things. There are J1939 protocols, CANopen, CCP, XCP, etc. on these 8 bytes. These are all things done on these 8 bytes, generally called CAN application layer protocols.
