Temperature for Direct Digital
Modulation
The CQF915/408 is a high-power, directly
modulated laser source in a butterfly package with
extended case temperature for metro WDM
systems up to 100 km. The laser is pigtailed with a
single-mode fiber and shows excellent thermal
stability (e.g. wavelength drift with case
temperature is much better than 1 pm/°C).
Dependence of the optical isolation on case
temperature is minimized by a cooled isolator. The
internal bias-T network and built-in monitor
diode enable simple DC-bias conditioning and
output power stabilization of the laser diode.
Under small signal modulation conditions, the
bandwidth of the device exceeds 3 GHz. Due to the
intrinsic low chirp characteristic of the DFB laser,
the device is especially suitable for digital
transmission at 1550 nm. Based on standard
single-mode fiber with non-zero dispersion, the
maximum dispersion penalty at BER = 10
-10
is less
than 1.5 dB, for a total dispersion of up to
1800 ps/nm at 1550 nm. Long-term wavelength
stability has been established by wavelength drift
tests.
