500 mA Low Dropout Regulator in LLP Package [Copy link]

National Semiconductor Corporation has announced a full-featured 500mA low-dropout (LDO) regulator that provides low-noise voltage conversion for medium-current applications in personal computers and portable systems. The LP2989 precision micropower regulator is packaged in a chip-sized, leadless frame package (LLP) to fit into the limited space of miniature portable designs. The LLP package measures only 4.0 x 4.0 millimeters (mm), is 0.8 mm thick, and has a pin pitch of 0.8 mm. The power dissipation of the chip is as low as 78°C/W, as measured by θ ja. Typical applications for the LP2989 chip include digital signal processors (DSPs), display cards, audio subsystems for personal computers and cellular phones, low-voltage memory, and bus terminators.

This chip supports low voltage voltage conversion, such as 3.3 volts to 2.5 volts and 2.5 volts to 1.8 volts. System designers can easily design the latest low voltage circuits without reconfiguring their power supplies. This LP2989 chip can be used together with National Semiconductor's micropower low-dropout regulator series to play a complementary role.
