Why can't carbon film resistors be used in switching power supplies? Instead, metal film resistors should be used?

It is not impossible, but it is better to choose metal film resistors. The main reason is that metal film resistors have better temperature tolerance and impact resistance, and usually higher precision. Power supply circuits often mean high temperature, current impact, etc., and some places also have higher requirements for precision. Knowing the principles, you can flexibly choose according to technical indicators and cost control requirements.

It is not that carbon film resistors cannot be used in switching power supplies, but the performance of carbon film resistors is often not as good as metal film resistors.

Can you explain it in more detail?

The temperature tolerance and current impact resistance of carbon film resistors are not as good as those of metal film resistors. Carbon film resistors with the same power dissipation are often larger in volume than metal film resistors, which is enough to show that the temperature tolerance of carbon film resistors is not as good as that of metal film resistors.  Details Published on 2018-5-17 15:06
