Recently, Nortel's integrated and innovative communication system has been favored by the State Power Information Center, which has established an IP voice network for it. As a high-tech enterprise providing services and operations for China's power informationization, the State Power Information Center has further expanded its efforts to provide more effective integrated communication services through this move. The State Grid Information Center is located in four office buildings in different locations in Beijing, which are the main coverage areas of Nortel's IP-based converged network. By utilizing the existing unified multimedia application system, the staff in the four office areas can communicate and exchange freely on this efficient and simple communication platform, ultimately helping the Information Center to effectively manage its core business - the State Grid Information Network, so as to better serve the production, management and decision-making of China's power industry. The entire network is based on the voice communication platform CS1000, and together with the multimedia communication server MCS5100, it provides the information center with the most advanced IP multimedia voice services and collaborative work platform; in addition, with the help of IP phones, WLAN mobile IP phones, and voice call systems, a more flexible working method is created for the staff of the information center. Through the voice communication service platform CS1000 and the multimedia communication server MCS5100, Nortel's IP voice converged network provides an efficient collaborative work platform for the work area covered by the information center. Through effective information sharing and more flexible working methods, it promotes the efficiency of the information center in software development and information resource development, and further improves the response speed and quality to information needs from all walks of life such as power systems, government departments, scientific research institutions, universities and colleges, and industry power companies; IP phones with video phone functions and mobile WLAN mobile IP phones, while greatly saving operating costs, bring new applications such as video calls and more convenient communication methods to the staff of the information center; and Nortel's voice call system will provide unified information services, allowing staff to easily obtain personal information such as telephone messages through a single computer interface. "With good system scalability and reliability, Nortel's converged network can provide a flexible and stable evolution platform for users' future network expansion." Xu Chengda, COO of Nortel Greater China and President of Enterprise Network, said, "We hope that by participating in the construction of the 'IP Voice Convergence Network' of the State Power Information Center, we can set a good example for the Information Center to create a new generation of information and communication models across the country, and provide strong communication support for the State Power Center to become the most powerful information platform in the national power industry." According to the research reports of Synergy and Dell'Oro in the fourth quarter of 2005 and the whole year of 2005, Nortel ranked first in the global sales rankings of traditional phones and IP phones. Also in 2005, through successful cooperation with many users, Nortel established one after another converged network application model in various industries in China, including the converged voice network of the West-East Gas Transmission Line, the multimedia converged communication network of Tianjin Haihe Water Conservancy, the data and voice converged network of Henan Electric Power Remote Branch, the multimedia communication system of Shandong Electric Power, the voice and multimedia communication system of Beijing CBD, the converged multimedia R&D environment of Shanghai Software Center, the wireless multimedia communication network of Qingdao Ocean University, the distributed communication network of Yichulianhua and the converged voice system of the new hotel of Beijing International Club.
