Share with your heart and grow together! I love DIY - "Hands-on Skills" [Copy link]

What I am sharing this time may not be related to electronic circuits, but this is one of the important things for graduates from engineering schools. I went back to school a few days ago and talked about this with our teacher. The teacher said that the hands-on ability of students nowadays is too poor. Every family has one. They are so delicate and unwilling to do it. They all like to type on the computer keyboard. As a graduate of an engineering school, I think it is a bit unreasonable that the hands-on ability is not up to standard. Recently, our company has also recruited several fresh graduates. To be honest, when I see them doing things, I am anxious for them. To put it bluntly, their hands-on ability is too poor. I can't always share electronic circuits and the like. Today I will share with you a post that reflects hands-on ability. As an engineering graduate, the jobs I found are almost all related to hands-on ability. I feel that when working outside, hands-on ability is still important. The boss gives you a task that should be completed in 2 days, but you spend a week on it, which reflects your hands-on ability. It will also greatly reduce your income. Electronics is almost inseparable from structure. It is not just writing programs. You have to consider the structure. So I bought a lot of tools recently. Today I DIY a file handle. I started. First, I chose a piece of wood. I didn’t have an axe, so I could only use my engineer shovel to cut it. This engineer shovel is awesome!!! I love using it!!! It is a shovel at ordinary times, and a weapon for self-defense in emergencies!!! I started to use the vise and sawed the wood in half. The purpose is to put the file handle in. I guess there is something wrong with my sawing skills. I sawed it crookedly. . . . This file originally has no holes. The handle of this file is round and it is easy to fall off, so I don’t like to use the round handle. I like DIY. Start to draw lines and dig grooves, and bury the file in them. There is no estimate of woodworking, it is just a knife, and it is modified from a file. Everything is ready. . . . Coat it with white glue. Then tighten the screws. . . I don't have a G clamp. I don't need it. I just use a vise. It works better than a G clamp. After about an hour, the white glue solidified. This knife comes in handy again. After half an hour of hard work, I finally scraped the ugly piece of wood into a beautiful wooden handle. Then I polished it with sandpaper, and it became smoother after polishing. It's done. Finally, I applied some motor oil on the wooden handle to prevent cracking! I think that as a graduate of an engineering school, you must have hands-on skills. Unless you are specialized in academics, hands-on skills are inseparable. So when you have nothing to do, you play around, mainly DIY. Even if the things you make yourself don’t look good, the feeling of using them is different. You feel very proud. Moreover, DIY is not about the result, but the process, whether you really put your heart into it. I love DIY!!! This content is created by RF-刘海石, a netizen of EEWORLD forum. I am indeed an engineering student. I don't have any hands-on skills. No matter what else I have, my first impression is that I am weak.

Did you sharpen the file into a knife?

Yes, I felt that the file was made of good material, so I changed it to a knife.  Details Published on 2017-11-19 15:57

The original poster has a great craftsman spirit! The vocational school students here are also very good at hands-on skills - playing with mobile phones. Nowadays, children are generally smart, good at talking and playing... and they don't like to study.

It still depends on the professional. In the IC industry, hands-on ability doesn’t seem to be that important. Clear logic and thorough analysis are the key. When it comes to DIY, I feel quite weak.

I agree that hands-on skills are a must, no matter if you are an engineer or not, as long as you are a man, you can't wait for a woman to fix a light bulb at home. Sometimes you can tell by watching some people do it. As soon as they start, you can tell whether they have skills or not. So, hands-on skills are a must. I have read some of the original poster's posts, and indeed the original poster has quite a complete range of tools. I still roughly remember the story of the knife you told last time...

I agree with what the old man said. As long as you are a man, you should be able to do things with your hands. I remember a few days ago my wife kept telling me that in her colleague's house, changing light bulbs, changing water pipes, and repairing stoves were all done by women. Men couldn't do it, so I said, what do men do then...  Details Published on 2017-11-24 21:17

Being a man behind a woman is such a loser... Maybe I am too chauvinistic? O(∩_∩)O Haha~  Details Published on 2017-11-27 09:43

The way of loving your wife is just different. Let's review the conversation between Donnie Yen and Big Eyes in "Ip Man 2". That sentence is very classic.  Details Published on 2017-11-28 15:57

If I remember correctly, the original text should be "I am not afraid of my wife, but I respect her." I can't remember clearly whether it was "Ip Man" or "Ip Man 2".  Details Published on 2017-11-28 17:23
