Abstract : This paper introduces the design and application of ONU in EPON system based on PowerPC core embedded chip MPC8245 and network switching chip BCM5615 . Keywords: EPON ; MPC8245 ; BCM5615 Introduction Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Network ( EPON ) is an optical access network technology with point-to-multipoint topology. It uses passive optical devices to connect the central office and remote devices to achieve transparent transmission of Ethernet services and access to comprehensive services such as voice and video in the same architecture. As an emerging access network technology, EPON has the outstanding advantages of low cost, easy maintenance and good scalability. EPON system consists of OLT and ONU .
