A special 0 ohm resistor circuit design technique [Copy link]

Chip resistors are familiar to hardware R&D engineers or purchasing engineers. Among the many types of chip resistors, there is a special resistor, which is the protagonist that Chip Brother needs to introduce - 0 ohm resistor. Due to its special resistance value, it is often used in some special application scenarios in the circuit design of the project. So what are the circuit design techniques for 0 ohm resistors? Chip Brother will give some ideas to start a discussion.

0 ohm resistor circuit design:

1. Circuit debugging: 0 ohm resistors can be used as jumpers. In the process of hardware or software debugging, 0 ohm resistors are often used to modify and adjust certain circuit parameters to replace the role of jumpers or short-circuit jumpers;

2. Filtering effect: 0 ohm resistors are often used in the EMC electromagnetic interference design of circuits to replace the filtering effect of magnetic beads or high-frequency inductors;

3. Ground bridge: In PCB design layout, ground GND is usually divided into analog ground GND and digital ground GND to distinguish the mutual interference between digital circuits and analog circuits; at this time, 0 ohm resistor is used to connect analog low GND and digital ground GND to realize the interconnection of two different GNDs;

4. Short circuit protection: It mainly uses the principle that the current passing through a 0 ohm resistor is small, which is equivalent to a low-resistance fuse and has circuit overcurrent protection or short circuit protection;

5. Compatible design: In order to use a circuit schematic as much as possible to meet the subsequent upgrades and revisions of the project, R&D engineers often "extra" add a 0 ohm resistor to some ADC acquisition or sensor module circuits. As shown in the figure, the addition of a 0 ohm resistor does not affect the circuit function before the project upgrade, nor does it need to be redesigned after the project upgrade, which greatly reduces the R&D workload of engineers;

It is particularly important to emphasize that true 0 ohm resistance does not exist, because it cannot be met in the existing resistor production process, and extremely low resistance resistors are simply equated to 0 ohm resistance; if a breakthrough in the production process of 0 ohm resistance is achieved one day in the future, then we humans will enter the "superconducting" world, a world without power loss, and we look forward to the early realization of this technology.

I really like to use 0 ohm resistors as bridges in control circuits. For test control, it doesn't take much to put one more resistor.
