Is this true? Xiaomi claims that its electric car SU7 has better configuration than Porsche and its technology is not inferior to Tesla [Copy link]

The car Xiaomi showed at its recent Beijing event is called the Xiaomi SU7 - pronounced "speed seven" in Chinese. It is a sedan based on Xiaomi's self-developed Modena architecture and using HyperEngine motors that can reach up to 21,000 rpm. The body is pressed using its molding press, which has a clamping force of 9,100 tons, exceeding that of Tesla.

The model will be available in two variants: the dual-motor all-wheel drive SU7 Max and the single-motor rear-wheel drive SU7.

It will be a few months before Xiaomi announces pricing, but it claims the SU7 Max has a range of up to 800km (according to the Chinese Light Vehicle Testing Task Force, CLTC), and acceleration from 0 to 100km in just 2.78 seconds, both beating out the Tesla Model S and Porsche's Taycan Turbo. That's largely because battery maker CATL has generously provided a 101kWh 800V high-voltage platform that can go 220km after just 5 minutes of charging, 390km in 10 minutes, and 510km in 15 minutes. The base model, however, supports 400V charging of its smaller 73.6kWh battery, giving it a range of up to 668km.

As Xiaomi has advertised earlier, the SU7 offers an in-car entertainment system called HyperOS, which is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8295 processor and takes only 1.49 seconds to boot up. You can access your media files, adjust the seat position, and even control your Xiaomi home appliances through the 16.1-inch 3K central control screen and the optional Xiaomi tablet (up to 22.5W output) that can be installed on the magnetic interface behind the two front headrests. The UI of the central control screen allows up to three windows to be displayed in split screen for multitasking, and you can even project your Xiaomi mobile phone screen onto this screen to provide you with a seamless experience. As for music and video entertainment, 23 built-in Dolby Atmos speakers will bring you a premium sensory experience.

Lei Jun also mentioned that he plans to open up the Xiaomi Carrot ecosystem to third parties, one example being a smart lift car seat that can remind you if your seat belt is not fastened. Lei Jun added that even iPhone users will be able to use some of the Xiaomi Auto features, such as support for wireless CarPlay and AirPlay connections, and iPad mounting capabilities for rear passengers.

Like Volkswagen, Xiaomi has learned that car owners still prefer to have some physical buttons, so it's kept some for climate control, as well as two extra buttons - one to toggle the spoiler (which Lei Jun says is mostly for show) and one to adjust the ride height (if needed, to avoid underbody scrapes). You can also get an optional row of buttons below the central display.

The SU7 will also have autonomous driving capabilities, thanks to its Xiaomi driver assistance platform powered by up to two NVIDIA Drive Orin processors (the base model has just one) and several sensors. These include a head-mounted LiDAR with a field of view of up to 200 meters and pixel accuracy down to 0.1 meters - the latter meaning better detection of thinner and smaller obstacles. In a series of video demonstrations, Xiaomi shows how to guide the SU7 to navigate a busy street with mixed obstacles, how to park itself, and even self-park in a cramped robotic parking garage. As a Beijing-based company, Xiaomi claims the SU7's sensors can also handle snowy and rainy weather.

Lei added that his company plans to complete autonomous driving tests in 100 cities across the country by the end of 2024, although it is unclear when local authorities will fully open up autonomous driving.

In addition to future software updates, Xiaomi also showed off its upcoming HyperEngine V8s, which beat its own record, reaching 27,200 rpm, all housed in a stronger silicon steel structure to keep the motor running safely. This is apparently ready for mass production, with plans to install this motor in 2025 models. The company then also showed off a next-generation electric motor technology based on carbon fiber that will be able to achieve a staggering 35,000 rpm, but this technology is obviously not ready yet.

I am not optimistic about Xiaomi Auto. The big-mouthed marketing on the Internet has already made the traditional manufacturing industry lose its original low-key image.   Details Published on 2024-1-7 19:24

I really like Xiaomi's stuff.

The first phone was Redmi 4

Then on December 25, 2018, my then-girlfriend and I bought two Xiaomi 6Xs, one for each of us.

Until the Redmi K50 that was replaced on Double Eleven in 2023

I feel that the Xiaomi series has always been cost-effective

When a car comes out later, I might buy one too, hahaha

All I can say is that they may all be new technologies. As Lei Jun has said, it is impossible to be cheap.

In general, Xiaomi is a relatively reliable company, but it feels that using extreme parameters to compare with others' rated parameters is a common problem among domestic companies and one of the main symptoms of the problem.

Unlike other brands of cars, BYD has a group of Mi fans. When the Mi car is launched, it will definitely affect BYD's sales.

The automotive industry chain is relatively mature, and there is little difference in hardware between the two. Basically, they are all modified based on the public version. The main difference is in the system tuning.
