I moved house and broke my computer... [Copy link]

I moved yesterday. I dropped my computer and the tempered glass shattered all over the floor because I didn't hold it steady. I didn't think the computer would break at the time. After arriving at the new house, I found that the screen was not lit. I looked at the host and the solid-state flashed normally, so I guessed that the CPU and motherboard should be working normally. Since there is no integrated graphics, I don't know the specific situation. The graphics card is GTX1660Ti. According to the online maintenance tutorial, I measured some points and found no problems. The layout of the graphics card on the Internet is different from that of the one I have, so many points were not measured.

I wonder if anyone has experience in graphics card repair, I hope to share their experience~

By the way, I'm also looking for a second-hand graphics card as a backup. Is there any friend who can provide one with an HDMI and a VGA/DVI?

The graphics card fan does not rotate, and the power supply to the graphics card is normal 12V.  Details Published on 2022-12-19 07:47

Have you tried unplugging and plugging it in? Could something have come loose? If it's not too high, it shouldn't break directly.

Is the monitor broken? Is the CPU fan not spinning? Or is the fan in the chassis outside the motherboard not spinning? You need to distinguish these. Also, check if the keyboard is responsive? Is there a difference in sound when the graphics card is unplugged and plugged in? Check if the graphics card is loose. Also, is there any visible problem with the graphics card?  Details Published on 2022-11-14 09:58

First unplug the CPU, memory stick, graphics card, and power ATX cable, then plug them in carefully, press the power button to see if the host responds, whether the CPU fan, graphics card fan, and power fan are spinning, and the 3 indicator lights of the USB keyboard will light up at the same time during self-checking when the computer is turned on.

If you need to repair it, first check whether the inductors on the motherboard and graphics card are missing or cracked. Generally, problems are more likely to occur if the inductors and crystal oscillators are hit.

I haven't plugged in the USB keyboard yet, I'll try it out later. The graphics card fan doesn't spin. I looked at the graphics card motherboard and saw many unsoldered components. There's no PCB diagram, so I don't know if any of them have been knocked off by vibration.  Details Published on 2022-11-14 10:11

Is the monitor broken?

Is the CPU fan not spinning? Or is it the fan outside the motherboard and inside the chassis that is not spinning? This needs to be distinguished.

Also, see if the keyboard is responsive?

Is there any difference in sound when the graphics card is unplugged and plugged in?

Check if the graphics card is loose or not. Also check if there is any visible damage to the graphics card.

Check if the memory card is loose. You can use an eraser to wipe it and then insert it again.

Try more and observe more.

If the graphics card fan does not rotate, it may be the graphics card that is faulty. Whether the motherboard is broken or the graphics card is broken depends on the direction in which it fell to the ground. Generally, there is no problem if the PCB board falls vertically, but it is easy to have problems if it falls horizontally.  Details Published on 2022-11-15 11:58

I looked at the graphics card socket and there was no sign of looseness.

The fan voltage of the graphics card can be measured. You can check the details of judging the fault of the device by the sound on the Internet. Check the computer sound to judge the fault.  Details Published on 2022-11-14 10:26

You can measure the voltage of the graphics card fan.

You can check the Internet for details on how to judge the failure of the device by sound.

Check the computer sound to determine the fault.

From the perspective of landing, it landed vertically. There is no problem with the PCB. It is probably the components that have problems.  Details Published on 2022-11-14 13:09

Generally, the graphics card is burned out because the capacitor or the fixed baffle and screws of the core graphics card are loose.

If the fan does not rotate, observe the fan's operating voltage. Regardless of whether it is direct or secondary regulated, look for it against the fan toward the power input side. First rule out problems with the power supply, especially the power connector.

The fan label has the operating voltage. 5V is the secondary power supply, and 12V is the direct power supply. Of course, it may also be powered by the bus power supply, but in most cases it is directly or indirectly powered by an external 12V.  Details Published on 2022-11-14 16:46
