Some time ago, I needed to test the charging of a lithium battery pack. The voltage of 18 lithium batteries in series can reach more than 70V. I used to have a GPC-6030D linear adjustable power supply from Guwei. After two 60V channels were connected in series, it could reach 120V 3A. However, it was not used for a long time and it could not work properly for some reason. I also have a 20V5A power supply, which I usually use for testing, but it can't meet the requirements. There are not many power supplies with a voltage greater than 60V on the Internet, and they are all expensive. I rarely use such a high voltage, so it is not cost-effective to buy one and use it once and then put it there as a decoration.
I remembered that Tektronix used to provide free trials to potential customers who were interested in purchasing, so I wondered if I could borrow one from them. Because my situation was quite special, I contacted the Tektronix manufacturer through the EEWORLD forum, and after I explained my intention, they readily agreed to my request and asked me which model I wanted to use.
I found out that Keithley, a subsidiary of Tektronix, has a 2260B-80-13 power supply, which is compact and lightweight with 80V and 13A, which meets my requirements. After talking to the manufacturer, they asked if the 2260B-800-4 would work. I don't have high requirements for current, as long as the voltage is 80V, the requirement will be met, and 800V is naturally not a problem, so I ordered the 2260B-800-4.
I checked the Tektronix flagship store on JD.com and found that the official price of 2260B-800-4 is 37,681 yuan, which is basically the most expensive in this series.
After confirmation, Tektronix quickly arranged for SF Express to ship the product. A few days later, I received a delivery reminder from the courier. I was out of town at the time, and because I was in a hurry to use the power supply, I rushed back after receiving the reminder. When I received the call from SF Express, I was still on the road. I was afraid of any mishaps, so I didn't dare to let it drop it off at the post station. After I came back, I went to SF Express's service outlet to pick it up myself.
I imagined that a 1080W power supply should be huge. I have seen pictures on the official website before, but I had no idea of the size. I was afraid that it would not fit on the table, so I bought a table a few days ago. After receiving the goods, I felt that the power supply was still very small. From the comparison in the picture below, you can see that if you choose the 360W model, the size of the front panel will be equivalent to the size of a larger mobile phone.
After receiving the power supply, I simply turned it on and tested it. Everything was normal. The front panel operation was also relatively simple, and the general settings were relatively convenient. However, when taking photos, I found that the refresh rate of the digital tube might be relatively slow. When taking photos with a mobile phone, the flickering was quite severe. I took many photos but the numbers were not fully displayed on the screen. It is recommended that the manufacturer make some adjustments later, so that it will be more convenient to demonstrate when taking photos or videos.
The lithium battery test went very smoothly. After completing the test, I did a small experiment to light a lamp, which was a more advanced method of lighting a lamp . When I adjusted the voltage during the first test, the circuit breaker suddenly "tripped", which scared me because I was a little nervous about testing such high voltage. When I came to my senses, I heard the power alarm and thought it was overvoltage protection. I checked the overvoltage setting and found that someone had set the overvoltage protection voltage too low. After resetting it, everything was normal.
Before receiving the power supply, I briefly read the manual of this power supply. This power supply looks very ordinary, but it is actually very powerful. The official introduction mentioned that it supports setting the voltage rise time.
It can also simulate the internal resistance of the battery by setting the internal resistance.
It also supports positive definition of power supply waveforms.
It also has USB and LAN communication interfaces and supports LabView programming. These functions are very useful in some complex tests, but due to time constraints, I did not have time to try these advanced functions.
